Community Partners: See description below

Location: Newark

This initiative is a collaboration between Rutgers School of Nursing’s Multicultural Nurse Leadership Institute; University Hospital, Newark; professional nursing groups; and community-based organizations in Newark. This project aims to improve socioeconomic and health outcomes within the Newark community by translating evidence-based strategies to address population health and the needs of patients experiencing food and housing insecurity. With a significant focus on community capacity building, this project will ensure community organizations and healthcare leaders are well-equipped to address the unique needs of Newark’s population, more than half of whom are grappling with poverty and language barriers.

Long-term goals include sustainable community development, the establishment of best practices in community-engaged scholarship, and long-term improvements in health and socioeconomic outcomes. Through comprehensive evaluation, active learner engagement, and a robust communication strategy, the project is designed to create lasting change, ensuring the well-being of Newark’s residents and fostering a legacy of health equity and community engagement.
